Garcinia (Garcinia cambogia) boasts a long and interesting history. It was once considered a fruit of commerce in its dried state. The dried rind was used as a condiment for flavoring curries in place of tamarind or lime.
- Garcinia is commonly found in the evergreen forests of India. In some areas, it has been found growing at heights up to 6,000 feet.
- The rind of the Garcinia fruit contains an active component called Hydroxycitric acid (HCA), which supports normal fat and carbohydrate metabolism, healthy appetite level and optimum body weight.
- Department of Physiology researchers at Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington D.C. called Garcinia a safe, natural supplement for normal weight support. In an 8-week study of 60 volunteers, they reported Garcinia's effectiveness in supporting normal weight and cholesterol levels, normal triglycerides and normal serum lipid levels.
